Montana Colors. Graffiti. Barcelona
” Since creating the first spray paint specifically for artists in 1994, Montana Colors has made giving back to the graffiti and street art community its mission. In an effort to unite artists with the public and one another, the company sponsors local events almost weekly in its home-base, Barcelona, in addition to providing paint for exhibitions and gatherings worldwide, like the ambitious graffiti extravaganza “Art in the Streets” at the Museum of Contemporary Art in L.A.
The murals that cover the Montana factory, located just outside of Barcelona, echo this creative spirit. Something of a history painting, Brazilian artists Os Gemeos and Nina’s enormous character-based work alludes to milestone events for the company—such as its fight against plagiarizing competitors and the fire that destroyed its old factory in 2002. French artists Dran, Bom.K and Sowat’s collaborative work on an adjacent building combines abstraction and a playful, childlike aesthetic to pay homage to graffiti culture.
